Never Say Never!

I remember last February when the yellow lab decided to move in with us.  He came from just down the road a bit and the neighbor who owned him for years didn't seem to mind.

We grew to love him and he loves us.  I told him he could stay but he could NEVER stay in the house. I didn't know this until he moved his membership to our front porch that labs shed TERRIBLY!

At first he slept on the front porch.  Of course we fed him good and regularly.  Then this winter came and he started sleeping on the back deck in a large box that our new washer came in.  Of course he had his own comforter to keep him snuggy.

Then I begged Hubs to make him a more suitable shelter.  So Hubs built him an insulated house with carpet AND a comforter to keep him real snuggy.

Lately we have had snow days and low temperatures in the teens for the past week..........So guess who is in the house???

Yes, I just sleep much better knowing he is not cold!

Besides, he has a friend, Skipper, who sometimes likes to take a nap with him!!

NEVER SAY NEVER!

Thanks for asking. She is recovering today and doing great...just a sore head. (The two girls are my daughters children. The little boy is my son's baby. They are first cousins!!!) :)

I know you are counting the days until Hollis gets here!!

LABS ARE THE BEST!!! I have a Chocolate Lab named Hadassah Naomi. She has been Jesus to me in so many ways over her nearly 13 years. I was never going to let her sleep with me until I rented an ancient farmhouse my year as a school nurse and we both would have frozen to death without each other for warmth.

Our dog, Barkley, has wiggled his way inside just like yours :)
There is comfort in knowing they are warm & not outside shivering!
Hope your weekend is a good one!

That is precious! I have said the same thing and have had to eat my words too. It has just been so cold lately in Arkansas.

Ha ha. I soooo understand. I did the same thing with Natty. All my life (well, all my life as an adult in my own house) I've said "no dogs in the house!" And that was true - til Natty. When BoyChild came back home and brought Natty with him, we had her kennel under the front deck (sheltered completely). It was Sept. Nice weather for sleeping outdoors. Then we had a little cold snap early Oct. I came home from work one day and her kennel was in his room. For the longest she had to stay in his room. Then she was allowed in the LR but only on a blanket.

Well, you've seen the pics of her sleeping (on the floor) at the foot of my bed watching tv with me, LOL.

But .... she still does NOT get on any furniture (except BoyChilds bed and only when he is in it).

Today they came over and she spotted her toy on the couch (I had bought her a new one). She kept reaching for it, but couldnt get it without getting on the couch. She would start to get it then look at me like "Grandma will you get it please?".

So .... I agree with "never say never". ;-)

What's next? A cat??????

I'm just glad you broke down and let him in. I can't stand thinking about him being cold. That is the happiest dog in AR right now!

I laughed reading your post! I had a 9 month old cocker spaniel when I got married and my husband to be told me that he'd be staying outdoors when he move in. I thought to myself, "Over my dead body!" Well, six years of marriage later we have a 6 y/o cocker spaniel and an almost two year old cocker BOTH indoor dogs and sleeping on our bed and furniture! You are right, never say never especially when it comes to our furry friends! :-) Heehee!

Isn't that something with how animals move right into your heart? I love my kitty, Jack, with all my heart. I had another cat named Tora, but he passed away last year due to heart problems. I miss him terribly still. These furry babies....what else can we do but love them?

God bless!
Missy

You are obviously both softies. I want to move to your front porch and look pitiful and see what will happen.

I would do the same thing. My pets are like my children and I want them to be happy and comfy!!

I loved seeing your post. I took my daughters on a mom/daughter getaway last week and on our last night, my husband called and said he had to take our 11 - 12 year old lab mix to the emergency vet. I knew what was coming. I came home to a sad house. Nothng like rubbing those droopy lab ears!!

Congratulations on 40 years!! Ours is coming up this Summer.
