Warm to Cold!

I've had a busy week and have not blogged in a while.  We left last Thursday to go to Florida for our annual Pastor's Conference at FBC in Jacksonville.  It is something we look forward to all year.

Of course, it helps to be a pastor/wife or someone who just loves to hear good Biblical preaching and awesome singing to REALLY enjoy yourself!   We hear approximately 6 sermons a day and hear some of the finest pastors in our country preach!  It is centered around giving some encouragement and spiritual uplifting to your local pastor!  Pastors need to get preached to also!

I went to several pastor's wives events and was pleased to hear Lisa McKay speak to us.  You can view her blog, apreacherswife.com and see what a delightful person she is!  She is the author of a book(You Can Still Wear Cute Shoes) for preacher's wives which I can't wait to read! I had met her last fall at an event I went to during the Arkansas Baptist State Convention in Searcy.

One of our favorite things about the pastor's conference is seeing the same friends we went to seminary with about 28 years ago.  We usually see them once a year and it is always a great time of visiting and catching up with one another's lives.

This is not a very good picture as we were all standing in the sun.  And, yes, the younger couple on the right did not go to seminary with us!  I am old enough to be their Grandma!  They are a young couple in ministry that we see each year and we enjoy being with them very much!

Last night the choir put on a grand finale and it was wonderful as usual!  I love the singing!

They had banners with all the names of Jesus from the Old and New Testament.  Such a lot of work put in to making these beautiful banners!

And the last banner to come in was the banner with the Name of the King of Kings!

I can't wait till next year!

One of my favorite pastors I heard was Boo Mama's pastor, David Platt, from Birmingham, Alabama.

This is his book that seems to have shaken the Christian world!

I have bought the book and am planning on reading it soon.  Have you read it yet?

When we left Florida Wednesday morning around 6 a.m. it was 68 degrees.  When we left Tupelo, Mississippi this morning around 6 a.m. it was barely 20 degrees.  We only had a trace of ice and snow left when we got home.  We went straight to the hospital when we got back into town because we had two ladies from our church who had surgery. Thankfully, both went well.

And then we got home to be welcomed by our dog who had been staying with his former master. We missed him while we were gone and even talked about how happy we would be to see him.

He was so happy to see us he ran a lap around the house!  Now he is on his blanket right here beside me sound asleep!  We have to go pick up our other dog from the kennel tomorrow.....he will be a happy boy, also, to get home.  But he is getting a bath first!!

It's hard to go from WARM to COLD but home is always a good place to be!

Glad y'all are home! I got Tyler "Radical" for his stocking this Christmas. I don't think he's started it yet. I've only heard GREAT things about it.

So glad that you have made it home safe. I wish I had known you were in Tupelo last night. I would have loved to have met you. Did you visit Elvis's birthplace? That's about the only thing we have going for us here. Hope you have a great week!

i'm reading 'radical' right now, but i'm not too far into it yet. our church (pantego bible church in fw, tx) gave a free copy to each family in our church body a few weeks ago as part of our first sermon series of the new year titled 'redefining normal'. a blessing for sure!

Glad you are home safely! BRRRR! It's freezing here in Birmingham, so I can imagine it's probably colder where you are!
Stay warm!

Oh! Isn't he the pastor @ Brook Hills? I have several clients that attend church there & LOVE him.

Pastors and their wives need those times of refreshment and encouragement and teachings soooo much! I am glad that you get to go. Out pastor goes to Calif. to those I think.

Looks like you had fun...and I am so glad you have made good friends there too.

It is always good to get home though...even if it is cold. Burrrr! But I am sure you did enjoy the Florida temps and the sunshine.

I'll check out the books.

Love, Linda @ Truthful Tidbits

Judy Martin!! I am about to have a full-fledged southern coniption fit. You spent the night in Tupelo??? Girl - you have NO idea how dearly I would love to meet you and Steve and here you spent the night in Tupelo and I could have taken to you dinner or SOMETHING (notice I didn't say "cook" - I'd be too intimidated by what a gracious hostess you are to embarrass myself that way - GRIN). Promise me if you are ever in Tupelo again you'll give me a chance to come say "hi."

Our new pastor (since June) and his wife went to the pastors' conference too, and I thought about y'all and wondered if you would be there. I started to tell them all about you, but realized that it wouldn't quite mean too much to them to know that Mrs. Judy, Kelly's mama, would be there! :-) Glad you had a good time and safe trip! Jax is about 4-4 1/2 hours from where I am in South AL.
