Storm Damage

Things are starting to get back to "normal" around here after getting home and seeing now what damage was done by the ice storm.

Everyone in our town who has a tree anywhere in their yard or acreage has had tremendous damage to their property.  We couldn't count the number of trees we have lost or the number of huge limbs down on our property.

It will take months to clean up the damage. We also had lots of damage to our vinyl fence in front of our home.  I love that fence and hated to see so much of it torn up.

However, we are so thankful there was no damage to our house or hubby's shop by a tree falling over on them.   And, really, that is a miracle considering we are surrounded by trees......huge trees!

So, we thank Him for protecting our home when it could have been so much worse!

Did your home/land get damaged by the Big Ice Storm '09 ?

I'm sorry to hear about your damage. Especially your white fence! We did sustain damage, we have several holes in our roof....not huge ones, but holes. Our insurance adjuster is coming out next week to give us the good news. For now Alvin has covered the holes with tarps and we have no leakage so far.

We were lucky to only have sleet in this round. We had lots of damage in the '07 ice storm and had to replace our roof and some walls from melting damage. We cleaned limbs for what seemed like forever in our yard and other family member's yards. It is very sad to see beautiful trees destroyed by the ice.

I live in Russellville. We didn't have damage like that this year, but we did last year. We had tornadoes, ice storms, and lots of snow. Power was out for awhile, too. I am sorry that your fence got torn up. I am glad that it didn't hurt your house. Some friends of ours went to Branson last weekend and said they had never seen so much damage. They said everywhere they looked trees were down. I used to teach with a man that was from Flippin. I think his parents still live there. His name is Lawrence Jefferson.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It does help to hear them. Just wanted to let you know they postponed his surgery till Tuesday. He has a slight infection from having fluid in his lungs. They are giving him antibiotics. Thank you so much for your prayers. Debbie

Praise God for no damage to your home! So sorry to hear about the damage to your fence though. We didn't feel the severe effects of the ice storm here...just cold weather.

Hi! I just came over from Kelly's blog and I just wanted to say what a difference her story has made in my life. Even before everything happened with Harper, Kelly's outward love for the Lord and her love for being a strong Christian woman just made me want to be like her.

She just posted on her blog about how when you got married, your husband was not a Christian. I was very interested in that story, as I feel the Lord pulling me back to Him stronger than ever, and my husband is not a Christian and has no desire to be one. I hope I'm not overstepping, but if you care to share more about how your husband changed his mind and the journey he went on to becoming a pastor, I would just love to read about it. It gives me such hope that one day my prayers will be answered for my husband.

Thank you so much! God bless,
Kristin from TX

I'm so sorry to see the damage your property received. I am thankful your home & shop weren't damaged.
We had a really bad ice storm in OK in Dec. '07 and it was like that around here. Lots of beautiful trees...gone.
We were without electricity for 7 days! It was really bad.
I love a good snow, but ice....a different story!

We had lots of trees down, but Chris was able to get the tractor and a friend with a little dozer and get our mess cleaned up. Mom's is another story, she has huge trees down everywhere. Chris and Lance worked last Saturday to get the biggest limbs cleaned up and out of the driveway, and Chris has his friend with the dozer going up tomorrow afternoon to try to clean up. Logan looked out the window at the big dozer piles and said, "Daddy, are you gonna burn those?", when he said yes Logan got excited and said, "Can we burn hotdogs on a stick and marshmellows when you do?" Come on over, looks like we will have a fire big enough to roast every hotdog in Fulton County!

I am so sorry to hear about your damage, but I am so thankful that your house and shop were spared. Sorry that so much of your pretty fence was damaged, too. We just had cold weather here.
